— A Pompeii of the East has emerged from 10 feet of pumice and ash on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa, according to a U.S. volcanologist who has discovered what appear to be the remnants of the lost kingdom of Tambora.

Wiped out in 1815 by the largest volcanic eruption in human history, the tiny kingdom is known only from a few reports from the Dutch and British colonial governments that ruled the East Indies in the 18th and early 19th centuries.

"It's a remote island with very little access, so it has been little studied over the years," said Haraldur Sigurdsson, professor of volcanology at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography.

Like Pompeii, frozen in time by Mount Vesuvius's eruption in Italy in 79 A.D., the kingdom of Tambora has been lying undisturbed under volcanic debris and ash for centuries.

"All the people, their houses and culture are still encapsulated there as they were in 1815," Sigurdsson said.

Nothing interesting to say today, so...

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; The image is the largest and most detailed photo of a spiral galaxy ever released.

Giant galaxies weren't assembled in a day. Neither was this Hubble Space Telescope image of the face-on spiral galaxy Messier 101 (the Pinwheel Galaxy). It is the largest and most detailed photo of a spiral galaxy beyond the Milky Way that has ever been publicly released. The galaxy's portrait is actually composed from 51 individual Hubble exposures, in addition to elements from images from ground-based photos. The final composite image measures a whopping 16,000 by 12,000 pixels.

Click on the image to be taken to the original article on physorg.com

Personally, this is cool. Why? Cuz I have always been an astrophysics nerd. I still want to be one, but don't think the 10 years of school are prudent at this point in my life. In this case, a picture speaks one: boredom. This is a one-word statement of how I feel today. How I feel lately. Bored. Imminantly and perpetually bored. I hate school. I dread having to do it anymore. I am sick of work. I never have time to take my girlfriend out and she will eventually get bored of me. I feel like my life will take a huge shit on my chest at any moment, then walk off with the only towel in sight. Maybe I need to quit smokin' again. Maybe I just need a bullet in the head. Sometimes, I think life is more trouble than it's worth. Then I somehow get over it. I move on. There is another sunrise and another sunset, some oxygen gets breathed, and my brain continues to process input and provide me with a neverending stream of output. Data. Mixed signals. Seeing drugged-out losers like Kid Rock and Scott stapp getting their nipples licked is bad enough, but seeing Scott Stapp tell the camera that "It's good to be the king" while some skank looking for 15 minutes of fame blows him burns my fucking retinas. It's been around the net a few times already, but it never gets old.

1. Under no circumstances may two men share an umbrella.

2. It is ok for a man to cry under the following circumstances:

When a heroic dog dies to save its master.

The moment Angelina Jolie starts unbuttoning her blouse.

After wrecking your boss' car.

One hour, 12 minutes, 37 seconds into "The Crying Game".

When she is using her teeth

3. Any Man who brings a camera to a bachelor party may be legally killed and eaten by his buddies.

4. Unless he murdered someone in your family, you must bail a friend out of jail within 12 hours.

5. If you've known a guy for more than 24 hours, his sister is off limits forever, unless you actually marry her.

6. Moaning about the brand of free beer in a buddy's fridge is forbidden. However complain at will if the temperature is unsuitable.

7. No man shall ever be required to buy a birthday present for another man. In fact, even remembering your buddy's birthday is strictly optional.

8. On a road trip, the strongest bladder determines pit stops, not the weakest.

9. When stumbling upon other guys watching a sporting event, you may ask the score of the game in progress, but you may never ask who's playing.

10. You may flatulate in front of a woman only after you have brought her to climax. If you trap her head under the covers for the purpose of flatulent entertainment, she's officially your girlfriend.

11. It is permissible to drink a fruity alcohol drink only when you're sunning on a tropical beach... and it's delivered by a topless supermodel ... and it's free.

12. Only in situations of moral and/or physical peril are you allowed to kick another guy in the nuts.

13. Unless you're in prison, never fight naked.

14. Friends don't let friends wear Speedos. Ever. Issue closed.

15. If a man's fly is down, that's his problem, you didn't see anything.

16. Women who claim they "love to watch sports" must be treated as spies until they demonstrate knowledge of the game and the ability to drink as much as the other sports watchers.

17. A man in the company of a hot, suggestively dressed woman must remain sober enough to fight.

18. Never hesitate to reach for the last beer or the last slice of pizza, but not both, that's just greedy.

19. If you compliment a guy on his six-pack, you'd better be talking about his choice of beer.

20. Never join your girlfriend or wife in discussing a friend of yours, except if she's withholding sex pending your response.

21. Phrases that may NOT be uttered to another man while lifting weights:

Yeah, Baby, Push it!

C'mon, give me one more! Harder!

Another set and we can hit the showers!

22. Never talk to a man in a bathroom unless you are on equal footing: i.e. Both urinating, both waiting in line, etc. For all other situations, an almost imperceptible nod is all the conversation you need.

23. Never allow a telephone conversation with a woman to go on longer than you are able to have sex with her. Keep a stopwatch by the phone. Hang up if necessary.

24. The morning after you and a girl who was formerly "just a friend" have carnal drunken monkey sex, the fact that you're feeling weird and guilty is no reason for you not to nail each other again before the discussion about “what a big mistake it was” occurs.

25. It is acceptable for you to drive her car. It is not acceptable for her to drive yours.

26. Thou shall not buy a car in the colors of brown, pink, lime, green, orange or sky blue.

27. The girl who replies to the question "What do you want for Christmas?" with "If you loved me, you'd know what I want!" gets an Xbox. End of story.

28. There is no reason for guys to watch Ice Skating or Men's Gymnastics. Ever.

Phwew...fixed it....

FIgured out it wasn't really IE, but the EMBED tag I use for the videos I post. The essays need some work to transition from academic, referenced work to a standalone product, that is, I need to expand the ideas that are quoted from other works and include them into the writing so the ideas are complete in their own right. A simple reference to the authors at the end will be necessary so as not to plagarize their ideas, and we'll see if I can get published! In the end, I would like to publish my photowork and my essays together. I don't even care if they get published, I just want to do this for myself. Although publishing would be fucking awesome. (It's not easy to accomplish though)

On another note, well, there is no other note right now :P Gotta get back to work. I feel so up and down today, like I'm not sure what to feel or expect. I guess I should expect nothing and feel everything, but that confuses and overwhelms me. An odd day. Some stalker-asshole sent my girlfriend flowers today at her office, asking for a shot in her life, which I am not mad at her about. But I better not see this fuck show up at her office. Seriously. If I come up missing, check the local jails. I may be up on some charges. Bah. Order and love are injected into the cold silence I feel when I sit in the chair of my life's amphitheater. I am dizzy. I am tired. I don't want to go on. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded - must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair - must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear in their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of time.

update? we don't need no stinkin' update!

Wow, haven't updated this in weeks. Don't really visit this place anymore. I seem to spend most of my time on MySpace since most of my friends and family go around there. It's kinda hilarious. Like Dateless & Desperate on ecstacy. Well, it isn't so bad if you ignore the losers and freaks and just stick to your little circle. Of course, as soon as I put my girlfriend in my profile pic the random friend invites stopped rolling in, making life a bit calmer there. Not much to say here. I don't have a digital camera anymore, so I can't do photoblogs like I used to back in the day. Even if I did, Jeff is so much better at it than I was. He has a great eye for composition. More so than I think he realizes. Good for him. I can live vicariously through him.

Not much else to talk about at the moment. Life is keeping me totally busy with school, work, my family and my girl. Well, it's late. Time for sleep.

SPT

Oh yeah, here it is. I get to write and play on the computer -- at the same time?!?!

Hoppy's. How can one place have a huge selection of micro-brewed beer and awesome burgers. Under one roof. It shouldn't be legal. Maybe it should -- this is America. Russia: NO HOPPY'S FOR YOU! Germany, England & Ireland got this one right, but they still don't get Hoppy Burgers. They get boiled sausage & potatoes. Ack. If I want papas & beer, I'll go to Mexico where they got it right.

Since nobody really reads my site but Jeff, I can't really tag anyone. Dusty Bubbles!"

*screams and applause*

"Look at me daddy! I won!"

"That's my little girl."

You know, it's funny. Porn stars are hot for like, the first 5 minutes you see them. Then you start to get a glimmer of the rancid mess beneath the 3 inches of makeup hiding their skin thrashed by years of drug abuse and boyfriends beating the shit out of them before all their friends take turns ejaculating on them. The 30 lbs of silicone in each breast has made them drop to their waist by the time they peak and burn out in their 30's, forcing them to retire into some secluded bus terminal where they dance on tables for pocket change in front of homeless guys. Hey, homeless guys need lovin' too, and who better to provide that than some washed-up mess who's daddy didn't pay enough attention to her growing up.

Ok, ok, so why all the porn star hatin'? It's not that I necessarily hate: hell, I've watched more than my fair share of porn, dated more strippers than I care to remember, and had parties you usually only see in the movies. (those of you who used to go to Paradise Beach back in the early 90's know EXACTLY what I am talking about.) I just think that some people's career choices are pretty fucking sad, and someone who willingly places themselves in the trajectory path of where 3 guy's loads of semen are going to cross so she can be there for "splashdown" deserves all the fun that can be made of her. Hey, it's fair game, just like the guy who plays the green teletubby. You know the one. He has a penis on his head and dances around like MC Hammer.

Ok, my ADD is kicking in and I am bored of this. Peace out.

Celebration

Decided to take inspiration from my MySpace page and do a new layout for my Blogger page. I'm it...

Jeff tagged me to say 5 weird things about myself, so without further ado, here they are...

1. When I was a kid, I didn't want to be a fireman or a policeman, I wanted to be an Astrophysicist. When I was 8 I studied the galaxy like they were Star Wars cards, and black holes/quantum physics were the most fascinating things in the universe.

2. When I was in high school, I went through an interesting little "goth phase". Yes kids, I worshipped Steve Strange from a band named Visage and wore black hair and black clothes and acted all gloomy. I dunno, don't ask me...

3. Most people think I live a charmed life because I seem to have things handed to me. Well, I'm really all fucked up inside just like everyone else. I just hide it well. It's easy to act happy when you surround yourself with shallow, superficial people who go through life thinking their fabulous because they're beautiful. Puhleaze. I'm at another crossroads in life, and I am choosing the road less travelled this time... Seems to be working.

4. Some think I am good at a lot of things and that I am really smart. Well, what most people don't know is I was an introvert and abit of a recluse when I was a kid: I spent most of my time reading, creating, and teaching myself things. Things like computer programming and reading the dictionary to find strange words. I was fortunate enough to learn a few things early in life that enabled me to connect facts in a different way than most people learned. This doesn't make me any better than anyone else. I just do things differently. I like that.

5. I still want to be an Astrophysicist.

Happy New Year everyone.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://anthonybrooktree.blogspot.com/2006/01/tag-im-it.html' title='Tag... Uugh. This sucks, and I can't afford to call in sick to work.

Roomie's been in Az for several days; I hope he's having a good time. His brother-in-law just sold his company for 87 million, so I am sure they are partying like rock stars ;)

What else, had a party for my birthday on Friday night and I got completely smashed out of my mind. A friend came by and gave me something I haven't seen in years: a joint laced with a large bead of hash in it. Holy sh*t. I had fun that night lmao. My girl's sisters all came by to wish me a happy birthday which I thought was totally cool of them to do. My friends shit bricks when they all came in hahaha. Let's just say that her family is genetically blessed. I don't think there is an unattractive person in that family. And down to earth too.
